I've about had it with the sanctimonious conservative fear mongering about Obama and his desire for a “socialist” state. Many times, these comparisons are being drawn by people that can't even tell you the difference between Communism and Communist states and Socialism and Socialist states. They point to any possible deviation from out and out free market capitalism as a slap in the face of American democracy. My first question is- since when is capitalism synonymous with democracy? And by the very fact of being a republic, we endow the government and its representatives with a level of power that we do not have, believing them to be more capable of governance than we ourselves are.
The current ugliness over health care just proves that the average American really SHOULDN'T be in charge of the government. Our modern society looks for scapegoats over solutions; and short term gain over long term solutions. Is it any wonder many in Washington do too? They are only representing us. Many in this nation take the word of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly as gospel truth, but if you ask them they will distance themselves from their opinions and their impact by saying that they are only entertainers. Their only real concern is ratings and popularity, which generates ad revenue and puts more money in their pocket. Heck, we even have a former VP candidate, Sarah Palin, playing the same game.
Wake up America! If you don't want government making the necessary decisions for you, get the facts, use your brains, and act! Don't blame Washington for all the troubles in the world, take some responsibility for them. And for crying out loud, DO SOMETHING about them. If you won't make the tough and necessary decisions, then you leave it up to someone else to do it for you, and the only entity big enough to do it is the Federal Government.
